About this speaker

Kathy Leibowitz brings seven years of passionate homeschooling experience focused on applying practical, optimized strategies for teaching language arts at home, helping her children build knowledge and become confident communicators.

When her youngest son's reading and spelling progress appeared to languish while using curricula based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, Kathy was compelled to learn more about Structured Linguistic Literacy (SLL). Encouraged by the remarkable improvement she observed using SLL, she swiftly adopted these methods to teach reading, spelling, and writing across all subjects throughout the school day.

Before becoming a full-time educator, she worked as a nurse and then nurse practitioner in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, pediatric oncology, and pediatric emergency medicine. She holds a BBA, summa cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, a BSN from Duke University, and a MSN from Rush University with a specialization in acute care pediatrics.
