About this speaker

Dr. Sharon Ware is an associate professor and director of the Special Education Literacy Fellowship Program at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut. In this role, she instructs aspiring and practicing teachers on effective methods of teaching reading. Sharon's journey into literacy education began unexpectedly when she volunteered as a tutor in her son’s elementary school. Tasked with "modeling reading" for a struggling ten-year-old, her skepticism led her to delve into research, leading her to the groundbreaking work of Diane McGuinness.

For more than 27 years, Sharon has advocated for simplified, uncluttered, an evidence-based literacy instruction for novice readers and is committed to empowering educators with the efficient techniques of structured linguistic literacy.
