Integrating Vocabulary, Etymology, and Morphology in SLL
A Talk by John Walker (Founder and CEO, Sounds-Write)
About this Talk
In this talk, John Walker argues that, while in the first three years of school the emphasis should be firmly on teaching phonics, morphology and etymology begin to assume greater importance as time goes on and should be fully integrated into the teaching of literacy. Through a number of examples John explains how we need to make children aware of their own implicit knowledge of language by grafting the reading process onto the speaking and listening process, following the logic of a speech-to-print approach.
