Reading Reboot: Focus on Phonemes -- An Introduction to Diane McGuinness
A Talk by Harriett Janetos (Reading Specialist)
About this Talk
This presentation introduces cognitive psychologist Diane McGuinness and the linguistic phonics she explores in her three books: Why Our Children Can't Read and What We Can Do About It: A Scientific Revolution in Reading (1997); Early Reading Instruction: What Science Really Tells Us About How to Teach Reading (2004); and Language Development and Learning to Read: The Scientific Study of How Language Development Affects Reading Skill (2005).
The presentation will explore the language principles McGuinness discusses by connecting those principles to K-6 students who illustrate the reading challenges she describes.
